This modern take on the classic story, which airs December 3, will include Queen Latifah as the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as Evilene and Stephanie Mills, who originally played Dorothy on Broadway, as Aunt Em. There's also a little rumor floating around that Glinda the Good Witch could be the one and only Beyonce.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the directors of the musical telecast have created new written material and will include Cirque Du Soleil acrobats as part of the production.
“The Wiz Live!” will be the third musical telecast aired by NBC. The network has aired two previous musicals, “Peter Pan Live!” and “The Sound of Music Live!” As of now, the search for the lead role of Dorothy is still in works. NBC is hoping to attract a newcomer for the role.
