The Guilt Trip

I want to take some time to encourage you to combat the feeling of guilt! It is a false feeling planted within us by the enemy. It’s only a weapon that He uses to make us trip ourselves up. How do I know? I’ve been fighting it.

Over the last two months, I’ve been keeping myself away from leading the spiritual life that I once held near to my heart. I stopped going to church, praying, reading my Bible and being a spiritual source to others. I had come to a point where I felt unworthy of being in the presence of God. Not only that, but I was worried about what others would think of me. I felt like I could no longer measure up to the standard of God or those around me. For a while I had been the person that some people would come to for spiritual concerns. Once I had gotten into my way of doing things, I truly felt like I could no longer face them, let alone speak to God.

What I didn’t realize at the time is that of I was only hindering myself.

You see, God never left me in my wrongdoing and He will not leave you. We are human and will make mistakes and unwise decisions a lot in our lives. It’s human nature. What we must realize, however, is that we have a God who is ready and willing to correct us and get us moving forward. We are the ones who hold ourselves back. The Bible says in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us OUR sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” It also says in 1 Corinthians 13 that love keeps no record of wrong. We know that God is love, so that means once we confess our shortcomings and intentionally turn away from it, all is forgiven! God has already let it go. So why can’t we?

I want to encourage you today to quit beating yourself up. Yes, you may have made a mistake that may be “unforgivable” to the world, but you have a Father who loves you and who is willing to catch you when you fall. It’s His thoughts that matter. And if you recall, God thinks very highly of you. You’re fearfully and wonderfully made. You are God’s workmanship. He made you piece by piece, putting extreme thought and care into every aspect of your life.

That feeling of guilt that you may have only comes from one place… the world. Shut those feelings all the way down today. They have no place in the heart or mind of a child of God.

But know that you are never alone! Pick your head up and move forward to the future with confidence.
