Happy Thursday, friends!
This week, I had come across a problem that I feel many people face, especially when it comes to the purpose that God has placed in our hearts. I was having a conversation with someone close to me about the latest going on in my life. I gushed with excitement about the success that my site has been having since I re-launched it a few days ago. For those who may not know my backstory, A Zealous Voice originally included faith-based posts only when I first started. But, I knew from the moment I began that it would be more than me ranting about the happenings in my life. I always say that A Zealous Voice is a gift because I could have never come up with such a creative name on my own. I am terrible at naming things.
As time went on through a series of events, I saw that God was making room for me to expand the vision. After constant prayer and seeking what my purpose on this earth was, God spoke to me. He told me through a devotional reading that everything I had been working for in the past decade would be coming to fruition. For the last ten years, I’ve been in school with the dream of becoming a journalist. He also told me that I must build on what He has already given me. At that point, it was obvious! I was to take this platform and use it build upon my journalism dream. However, it was important to me to ensure that I would not make any changes to the site that would cause me to abandon my original base… faith.
Entertainment is what I love. I was not born with the ability to be a Grammy-winning singer or an Oscar worthy actress. I was given the gift of writing. With that, it was plain that I could still find a way into the industry that captivates me the most with the use of the gift that I have.
Now, like the person who I had the conversation with, some may argue that as a firm believer in Christ I cannot mix the two. The Word does say that you cannot be a friend of the world and belong to God (James 4:4). I wholeheartedly take the Word for what it says, BUT the WORD also says to let your light so shine before men that they will see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:5). Look at Russell Wilson and Stephen Curry. Men of GOD in a sensational industry who are finding success within it, but are completely open about their faith. They are setting a standard, people look up to them. There is something SPECIAL about them. That being that God lives in them and He is using them in their respective places to bring glory to His name through what they do.
That is my goal as an entertainment reporter and personality. God did not shower me with these blessings and gifts just for me to throw them aside. This is opportunity to bring him the glory through my work. There is PURPOSE in all of this! Although I do not know what is ahead, I do know that wherever I go God will be with me. As long as I acknowledge Him in everything that I do, He will direct my path. God is not a God of hate, malice, gossip, selfishness or any other things that entertainment writers may be stigmatized with. I am called to be like Him, therefore my brand will reflect that. I am called to stand apart from the crowd and with God’s leading, that is what I plan to do.
With A Zealous Voice my goal is to bring the news you love to hear involving your favorite celebrities, while keeping the perspective fresh. My brand is about celebrating each other and toasting to our accomplishments! My goal is to use this platform to inspire, to love on others and to create a positive outlet. There’s enough negativity and confusion in this world. I feel that God is using me to bring change and a new view to this industry. With God, all things are possible.
When I had that recent talk, I almost gave all of this up. I was deeply discouraged because the person told me that since they feel that the two cannot mix, I should not be doing this. And what makes the situation worse is that they are a person of influence in my life. When I told them that I prayed and sought God about where I should be on this journey, they said that I must not have prayed hard enough. That made me second guess myself a whole lot. To the point where I had to reach out to my mentor to see if what I was doing was wrong. But then, I snapped out of it.
I KNOW what God told me to do. What He tells me about my path, I’m sure He did not tell anyone else being that this is MY life assignment. Everything that God places within us will not result in understanding from others. We have to stand firm and trust the Word that God has given us. He would not tell us anything wrong.
I say all of this to say that sometimes we have to block out the noise and tap in to what God says. His thoughts are the only that matter. Yes, we are instructed to seek wise counsel at times, but we MUST seek God FIRST. Also, we have to ask God to give us the spirit of discernment so that we know what is of Him and what is not.
If we aren’t careful, we can allow the opinion of others to lead us far away from what God has planned for us. Don’t dwell on what they naysayers have to say. That’s only the devil trying to confuse you and lead you AWAY from God’s promises. That’s what he wants. TRUST what God has told you about your life!
In the words of one of my favorite ministry leaders, Nelson Bowen of Ingage Movement:
“Don’t let the opinion of others stop you from going after what God put in your heart to do. People will always have something to say, that will never change. Keep moving forward.”
Just know, when the attacks come heavy the success is coming strong!
