This evening as I was sitting in church service, God spoke something deep to me. The speaker was talking to us about a receiving a “fresh wind” that would bring rejuvenation and new anointing to God’s people. The scripture she had us read was:
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10
As I was listening, I felt God tell me that @@motivation does not come from the actions of man, but it is rooted in the call and plans over my life.@@
Last weekend I was in New York City for a really awesome career panel and networking event. You can read about it here. At the conclusion, there were at least 40 people in the room who were trying to get the attention of each panelist. I was definitely one of them. As I observed, people would push past each other and find different ways to get the person to talk to them. (Now don’t get me wrong, no one was rude about it.) People, including myself, pulled out their business cards and elevator pitched their lives away. The funny (but not so funny) part about it is that out of us who bum-rushed the panelists, I can bet you money that they wouldn’t have been able to name three. They saw us… but they didn’t really see us.
Once they “see us” they tell us to follow-up with them. Shoot them an e-mail, give their assistant a call, send them a tweet etc. We do these things hoping that they will give us an opportunity, but what if it doesn’t happen? When God spoke those words to me He also gave me the reminder that @@the actions of man can do nothing. Only a move of God can push us ahead.@@
We wait and wait extensively for a person to give us a chance to move forward in our career goals. We see the person we admire doing their thing and we begin to believe that if we get connected to them, then we will make it too.
Right?! W R O N G!
How do you think they got there? It is clear that not every person on this earth believes in God, but it does not take away the fact that He is indeed the One who has created everyone’s successes.
Our God is omniscient. He is ALL-SEEING and ALL-KNOWING. Those people who we tirelessly chase after are people who we have to jump through hoops for to get their attention and people we have to spill our entire resume (and then some) to in order to prove to them that we have what it takes.
Family, it is time to cut the middle man out. @@We have to put our faith in God for our promotion.@@ He knows us in and out. He’s know what we are skilled at and what we can bring to the table. I mean… He is the One who placed it in us in the first place. If we go to God in prayer, stay rooted in His Word, love Him and obey Him He will put us in front of those people who can help us make it.
This post is not telling anyone to forego networking and making professional connections that will benefit your future. But what it is saying is that God is the connection that you need more than anyone. When you make those contacts, don’t rely on them to get you where you desire to be. @@Pray that God has you in the right place and connected to the right people.@@ Don’t go overboard to get someone to notice you. God knows your worth and if He wants them to take a chance on you, He will make sure it happens. If it doesn’t, you can rest assured that it was not what He wanted for you.
Also, @@don’t allow someone else’s actions to be your sole motivation for executing your plans.@@ Folks could be up one moment and doing something crazy the next. It is definitely okay to be inspired by others who are where you want to be, but @@our true motivation must come from the promises of God.@@ The motivation and “fresh wind” that comes from Him is what will last and will not change.
Remember these words from God. He will never not keep His promises to us:
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:9-11
