***Show Notes***

This week, we welcome Mariah Oates and Keisha Brewer of The PR Alliance! We break the ice with our tales of interesting (and awkward) celebrity encounters. Things get a bit heavy in the #CultureFix, as we discuss the killing of Richard Collins III by a white nationalist on the campus of the University of Maryland. It’s been a rough few years of rocky race relations on campus. Now is the time to step it up. The we move into Adrienne Bailon’s critique of Monique and her apology to Naturi Naughton for the 3LW beef. Finally, we discuss the “Pill Cosby” drink made by DC-based, black owned bar “Diet Starts Monday”. Did it go too far?

In the #PoliticsFix, we discuss the Montana special election. The Republican candidate won the election after body slamming a reporter to the ground. Welcome to Trump’s America.

In the #BeautyFix, we discuss our beauty and style icons, with picks from Lupita N’yongo to Blair Waldorf, this is an interesting discussion!

Finally in the #FaithFix, we chat it up with Mariah Oates and Keisha Brewer of The PR Alliance! Introduced by mutual friends, these ladies bonded over a love of communications and their PR firm was born. But not without its difficulties. From adapting to each other’s work habits, dealing with clients, and even the unexpected loss of a 9-5 job, the path to entrepreneurship has been a hustle. But they love it! Tune in to catch some jewels about running your own business, picking the right partner and of course, protecting and building your brand!

Episode 20: Going From Greek to GDI

Yes, one of our hosts walked away from Black Greek life.

***Show Notes***

This week, we celebrate our milestone 20th episode! We start off with our #BossOfTheWeek which included all of the 2017 grads who are out here snatching up their degrees. We also gave an honorable mention to Michelle Williams as she’s been slaying in these “skeets” with her new style.

For the #CultureFix, we discuss how Steve Harvey’s former wife is suing him for murdering her soul. Sis, we support you. We also discuss how saddened we are with the new Miss USA (big ups to DC for a two-year win) as well as if we would want to see our men rocking the new “romphim” trend.

In the #PoliticsFix, Nikki breaks the news that the “Thin Blue Line” Bill, passed. No comment…

Finally in the #FaithFix, Taylor shares her personal testimony of once being a thriving member of Greek life to giving it up after a deep spiritual encounter.

Episode 19: There Is Always Hope

*Trigger warning* For #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, we are discussing mental illness, including depression, anxiety and suicide. But remember, there is always hope.

***Show Notes***
This week we have mental health and responsible theology blogger, Ashley Burton of nuancedexposures.com in the studio with us! We start off with our youngest #BossOfTheWeek, 15 year old Moziah Bridges of Mo’s Bows, who just signed a 7 figure deal with the NBA! Then we break the ice and say what the best advice we’ve ever received. Be safe tho.

For the #CultureFix, we salute the heroes at Bethune-Cookman College who turned their backs on Massa Becky Devos. Then we go into some major layoffs in the black media world. What’s going on with Ebony, BET and The Steve Harvey Show? And we finish off with Lil Bow Wow being a lil cray cray. Why you always lyyiiinnnn?

In the #PoliticsFix, Nikki breaks down a new law that you may not have heard of. Yall know the FBI firings are just distractions, right? While that’s going on, the GOP is trying to pass the “Thin Blue Line” Bill, basically making blue lives matter a thing. We’re tired ya’ll.

Finally in the #FaithFix, we discuss mental health with Ashley, who recently graduated from Liberty University with a master’s in Professional Counseling. We read a portion of a blog post about her first time at therapy and dealing with depression. Ashley breaks down the reasons behind the stigma of mental health, finding a good therapist and how to best support those with mental health issues. And then we end with a powerful message: There is always hope.

Episode 18: Come As You Are

This week our guest is P. Ryan from the Hung Up Podcast! You’ll be wanting to subscribe to them by the end of the episode

***Show Notes***

We start off the show shouting out Baltimore native and HBCU-grad April Ryan for winning the NABJ Journalist of the year! And it’s the least we can give her for going toe to toe with Sean Liar. Then we get into some reality TV mess. What reality TV stars would you like to see on a show together?

For our #CultureFix, we just want Joe Budden to let people be happy! He literally jumped across the table at verbally attack Lil Yatchy (did I get that right?) for saying he was happy. Then we get to an article on Essence’s snap story about not getting an HBCU experience at a PWI. Was that shade? Well we know them messing up the SGRho’s name sure was. Next, if yall just don’t leave Beyonce alone! After Media Take Out (they are still around?!) reported that Beyonce got lip fillers, a reported “rep” read them to filth.

For our #PoliticsFix, the GOP’s answer to the Affordable Care Act passed the House. And if becomes law, basically being a woman is a pre-existing condition. Rape, pregnancy and cancer would all be grounds to up your insurance costs or deny you flat out. Then Nancy Pelosi through us for a loop and said abortion is a dead issue in the Dem party. And that’s why Trump won… *mr krabs meme*

For our #BeautyFix, we talk about self-care. From ACV baths to exercise, we have to take time for ourselves to stay beauty inside and out.

Finally in our #FaithFix, we talk to P. Ryan about being a gay male on the black church. He spoke openly about being removed from his leadership position for his “lifestyle” and how he refused to let that break him or have him turn away from Jesus. At the end of the day, we want you to know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. And Jesus loves you, even if some “Christians” don’t.

Episode 17: Rejection & Redirection

Shea Moisture really tried it y’all...

***Show Notes***

We start off the show with some #BlackGirlMagic with the news that Elaine Welworth was promoted to editor in chief of Teen Vogue. She was previously co-editors with two other people, now she is solely, the Head Black Girl in Charge. Then for our ice breaker, we spread the podcast love around by sharing some of our favorite podcasts with you from the serious to the seriously hilarious.

And in more #BlackGirlMagic news, Queen Beyonce is bestowing $25,000 on four lucky young ladies for her Formation Scholars Program. But with the inclusion of Howard and Spelman in the list, questions of elitism were raised. Resident Howard Alum elitist (jk jk jk) Toni weighs in. Then in not so magic black love news, Jesse Williams is divorcing his wife of five years (for a white girl?!). But Nikki C is available to comfort him. Then in honor of Auntie Aretha’s shady fax, we count down her top shadiest moments. And she has shaded your faves and your fave’s fave. She’s our shady hero.

In the #PoliticsFix, Trump isn’t going to the White House Correspondents Dinner. Cuz he literally can’t take a joke. The government shutdown is not happening… at least this week. And to recap his last 100 days, Trump has signed more executive orders than the last three presidents...30 in total.

In the #BeautyFix, you already know we read Shea Moisture for fiilllttthhhhh for that white washed ad, lackluster apology and crazy social media response afterwards. Are you guys boycotting it?

Finally in the #FaithFix, we talk about how to deal with rejection. Each host has had bad experiences with rejection (I mean does anyone really like it). And Nikki drops some God inspired inspiration on how to deal with it. Rejection happens to us all, but don’t take it personal! What’s for us, is for us. And it will work out fine. Right?

Episode 16: Case of the Ex

It’s a week full of babies, divorces and exes.

***Show Notes***

We start off our baby show with your favorite athlete’s favorite athlete, Serena Williams who shocked the snap with her baby bump. And in a yellow bathing suit no less. Been slipping Bey’s lemonade huh? Next we move on to Janet Jackson who apparently isn’t taking her $500 million divorce money. We’ll take it sis! And speaking of divorces, Carmelo ‘Ain’t Got A Ring’ Anthony had the audacity to cheat on Lala and get his side chick pregnant. And Mary J’s ex husband is spending HER money on his new girlfriend. Who do you think is dying first?

On to the #PoliticFix. Jason Chaffetz who is the Republican who would be in charge of calling for an official Trump investigation says he’s not running for any office in 2018. Could there be another Russian connection here? We also have a chance to add another Democrat to the House. The election for Tom Price’s seat (Secretary of Health and Human Services) is a close one in Georgia. The race for the normally a heavily republican district, GA-06, is neck and neck between the Democratic and Republican opponents. Humpty Dumpty Keith Ellison, who lost chair of the DNC, came sideways out to neck to say Obama is tarnishing his legacy. Bye sis. AND BYE MR. O’REILLY! His racist, sexist self is finally out of a job at Trash News.

In the #BeautyFix, we talk about Becca’s new collab with clapback queen Chrissy Teigen. And Toni gets you influencers and bloggers together regarding ad disclosure on social media. Come get this info before the Feds gets your coin for violating the law.

And finally in our #FaithFix, we talk about break ups and our exes. What we learned from them and how we moved on. Come get these gems girl!

Episode 15: Auntie Maxine Says... Just Be.

Yes, you read that show title right! We have your Auntie’s favorite Auntie on the show today, Auntie Maxine Waters!

***Show Notes***

We start our show off with our #BossOfTheWeek Ebonee Davis (a Black model who only wears her natural hair. She’s booked Calvin Klein.) She did a recent Ted Talk on the truth of being a Black model in the industry. And in our icebreaker, we pick our sides in the Timbaland vs. Pharrell battle. Moving into our #CultureFix, we discuss TI ending his “distracting” marriage, and Janet Jackson ending her $500 million one. Secure the bag sistren. In our #BeautyFix, we discuss Elle’s first African cover girl this century (kinda…) and how Forbes’ top beauty influencers list ain’t have not one black on it.

And finally for the moment you’ve been waiting for! We interview California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, affectionately known as Auntie Maxine. And it’s truly a full circle moment for us. She was our very first #BossOfTheWeek! Known for her expert level shade and telling it how it is, Auntie Maxine’s main goal in life (other than empowering our youth) is to impeach Donald Trump. In this interview, she speaks about where she got her strength as a black woman, how others who feel “supressed” can learn how to speak up and how she really feels about being called Auntie Maxine. Just press play and collect these gems!

Episode 14: #ForTheWorld

How do you set yourself up for success on your own terms? Our Guest Michell C. Clark breaks it down for us. Stay tuned!

***Show Notes***

We start our show off with our #BossOfTheWeek Timea Gaines of She Rocks, which honors emerging and established women thriving in business and the arts in the DMV. For our icebreakers, we hop on the #ForTheWorld hashtag started by our guest Michell and Maura Chanz of @YouNeedTribe. We sum up what we do for the world in one-ish sentences.

For our #CultureFix, we read Pepsi and Nivea for their extremely insensitive ads. #HireSomeColoredFolks. Then we discuss, Suge Knight snitching (please don’t kill us too Mr. Knight) and That’s So Raven getting a spin-off. Finally we discuss French Montana and his twitter fingers. Just log next time Dutch Dakota. Just. Log. Off.

In our #PoliticsFix, we (again) discuss the world ending. 45 bombed Syria but won’t let Syrian refugees in… The Republicans went nuclear to appoint their supreme court justice pick… And the GOP is threatening to shut down the Government unless we defund Planned Parenthood. Get right with the Lord saints! For our #BeautyFix, we discuss our favorite physical characteristics, from our hair to our legs to Michell’s thot beard.

Finally we have a deep conversation with our guest Michell C. Clark. Def one of our fave #blkcreatives, Michell is a DMV based: social media coach, influencer, party host and creator of Artistic Manifesto. He speaks about his 5 and half year college experience, quitting his job, pressing on despite things not going your way and how to succeed on your own terms. If you are a creative (or anyone for that matter) looking for direction, Michell’s story of overcoming and persisting towards his passion will inspire and encourage you!

Episode 13: Breaking the Curse

This is an emotional episode! So get your tissues ready before you hit play!

***Show Notes***

We start the episode with our Boss of The Week: Nancy Abu-Bonsrah, the first black female neurosurgery resident at Johns Hopkins. Cuz you know black girls are out here being excellent. Then we jump straight into our Culture Fix, where we discuss Kendrick’s “Humble” song and video y’all been arguing about for days. Is he uplifting or misogynistic? Niccara, could see the point, while Toni wants yall to stop writing 22526783940 tweet long threads about it. Either way, that video is FIRE! Then we segue in a big shake-up at BET, the VP and EVP of original programming (you know like Mary Jane and New Edition), left seemingly very suddenly. Is BET in trouble?

In the Politics Fix, we talk about the sass yall presidents minions have been giving black women. And what yall WONT DO is shade Auntie Maxine. NOT. ON. OUR. WATCH! And shoutout to our real president, Hillary Clinton, for standing up for us. In the Beauty Fix, we talk about our favorite beauty bloggers and YouTubers and the importances of finding beauty vloggers who look like you!

Finally in the Faith Fix, we get really, really, REAL and parental relationships as generationals curses. Toni talks about her experience being a “PK” (a preacher’s kid) and how she is starting to see her mother as person, rather than a “mom”. Taylor speaks about being raised primarily raised by her grandmother, patching up her relationship with her mother and having an incarcerated father. And Niccara speaks about dealing with her parents divorce and a changing and deteriorating relationship with her mother. Then we talk about how to break these generational curse we have lurking in our families. It starts with identifying the curses, introspecting and vowing to make changes for ourselves and our future generations.

Episode 12: Are You Toxic?

Those f-boys ain't the only thing that's toxic, sis.

***Show Notes***

We had to start out the week by shouting out our Boss of the Week, Joi-Marie McKenzie, who just released her memoir, The Engagement Game. We then get into our #CultureFix, where we had to address the disappearance of our young girls (...and boys) who have gone missing in our backyard of D.C..
In the #PoliticsFix, we celebrated the victory of Uncle Barack’s healthcare bill still being law of the land, & Beyonce-ed our way through Trump’s & Paul Ryan’s tears. In the #BeautyFix, we talked about generational beauty rituals, and are they nays or yays.

Episode 11: Insecure

We all self conscious, I’m just the first to admit it” - Us… and Kanye West

***Show Notes***

We start out with shouting out our boss of the week and play a hard game of “Would You Rather?” We then get into our #CultureFix and read down your illiterate uncle Tyrese, who apparently has a book?!?!?! Also in ashy man news, some benchwarmer for the Dolphins doesn’t date black women because we don’t “submit” to our men. *long unimpressed yawn*

In the #PoliticsFix, we talk about 45’s new budget plan which is hellbent on ruining our country and possibly the world. Then in #BeautyFix, we talk about Sephora Accelerate, which helps develop women led beauty businesses. We shout out two of those businesses, which have amazing black women leading them.

Finally in the #FaithFix, we get real about our own insecurities. Yes, we all have them and they sometimes hard to talk about. From imposter syndrome to body image and career development, even the most seemingly confident among us are insecure about something. But as Taylor reminds us that Psalm 139:13-18, we are right where God wants us!

Episode 9: Friends & Feuds

Friends… How many of us have them?

***Show Notes***

This week we kick things off by representing @FUCCI as our Boss of the Week for his outstanding journey in fashion. The man styled THE Rihanna’s latest Paper Magazine cover shoot which has been making major waves on social media. We also share our experience at #IndieFashionWeekDC’s Fashionable State of the Union panel and thoughts on the future of DC’s culture. In the #CultureFix, we talk about the highs… (and crappy low) of the 2017 Academy Awards. And of course we couldn’t let this episode come and go without adding our two cents about Remy vs. Nicki.

In the #PoliticsFix, Jeff Sessions recuses himself from his impending investigation into his Russian dealings.  Then, HBCU presidents take their field trip to the White House just to be played by the president. Was it really worth it, fam? And Betsy DeVos goes so far to say that HBCUs are schools of choice. We guess, sis.

In the #BeautyFix, we take a trip down memory lane with a discussion when we started wearing makeup and why. Girl, you know you started off with a Lip Smackers chapstick!

Finally, in the #FaithFix, we talk deeply about friendship. We dig into our own personal stories that bring back some not so great memories filled with important lessons. As Proverbs 18:21 says, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

***Show Notes***

This week we welcome Terrence Rice (@TerrenceDaGawd) of The Hot Box TV (@TheHotBox_TV) to the show! We start off talking about songs have helped us get through tough times, and wind up reminiscing about Michael Jackson, old Kanye and Jay-Z. In the #CultureFix, we talk about Chris Brown actually being a violent stalker (like we said 2 episodes ago smh), Jay-Z being the first rapper in the songwriters hall of fame and starting a venture capital firm, and Ja Rule’s silly response to #BlackBoyJoy and Tank of all people calling him out.

In the #PoliticsFix, 53% of white women’s president is still out here being egregious. He’s sending undocumented immigrants to Mexico whether they are Mexican or not, he’s reversing the federal trans bathroom laws and he blocked major news corporations from attending a White House briefing.

In the #BeautyFix, we give a big shoutout to Beauty Bakerie for launching their “Flour” setting powder (it sold out before we even published the episode!) and opening a new store in San Diego. And of course, we talk about Rih Rih’s $10 million Fenty Beauty collection at Sephora. And major props to Ms. Fenty to receiving a humanitarian award from Harvard!

Finally, in the #FaithFix, we received a question from “Tina” about finding out her passions in life and things got very real - again! Anyone questioning, distraught or generally confused about their path in life will want to listen to this! After a tough week, we really open up about our ups and downs life and you’ll be inspired by our host’s stories. Our best advice: pray, pray and PRAY!

Episode 7: Know Your Worth, Sis

Know yourself, know your worth sis.

***Show Notes***

We get the week started with a #FineWomenFriday shout out and we take a self-inventory. In the #CultureFix, we openly stan for Chance The Rapper and his auntie Yonce for winning Grammys and send big shoutout to HBCU grad Terrence J for inking a new production deal with VH1 and MTV. And speaking of HBCUs, Hampton’s president has a few words for the BET original series “The Quad”. And Howard graduate, Antoinette, has some words for him.

In the #PoliticsFix, Trump outchea still being Trump. He kicked the members of the Hispanic Congressional Caucus out of a meeting of with the ICE director, he asked a black reporter to set him up with the Congressional Black Caucus and he hired unqualified people to work in the White House. It’s only been four weeks!

In the #BeautyFix, we shoutout black owned beauty brand, Beauty Bakerie for collaborating with Gabby Douglas on a new lipstick collection. And we drag CoverGirl’s first coverboy, James Charles for his racially problematic tweets.

Finally in the #FaithFix, we have to talk about #HurtBae. We’ve all been silly for love, but baabbyyy, you gotta know your worth sis. Ain’t nobody worth your time, energy or love will disrespect you over and over and over… Taylor references Matthew 6:33: “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” And trust The Lord ain’t finna give you no junk.

We discussed everything from stretch marks to being social media official and asking your partner “permission” to big chop. Then we take a deep (and heated) discussion into situationships. Did he just propose to shorty on air?! This episode definitely takes some wild turns.

Thanks to Devin (@MrPerfect_4 on IG), Biggie (Moscow_Big on twitter/IG) and Salasie (@Salastheboss on twitter/IG) for stopping by!

Episode 5: Beyonce Gon' Beyonce

Blue Ivy is gonna be a big sister!

***Show Notes***

We start out with naming the cast of Hidden Figures as the Bosses of The Week fresh off their SAG awards for best ensemble and we shout out Taraji’s moving speech. Then we play one truth and a lie with the hosts. Can you guess which is which?

In the #CultureFix, we talk about Tamron Hall’s departure from NBC News, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus saying bye-bye to Ivanka, Uber’s CEO leaving Trump’s economic advisory team and Kirk Franklin’s twitter clap back. All we can say is don’t mess with Texas!

In the #BeautyFix, we are highlight black beauty entrepreneurs for Black History Month. This week we highlight Melissa Butler of The Lip Bar. She infamously went on The Shark Tank, where Kevin called her a “colorful cockroach” ouch! But she didn’t let this get her down. She took this very rude rejection and spun it into gold. She’s on track to do $400,000 this year and recently started selling her lip products at Target! Queen Melissa is this bih.

In the #PoliticsFix, we are very open about how we are dealing with Trump’s presidency. It’s hard on all of us, but we give some suggestions about self-care in a Trump world.

In the #FaithFix, we talk about Beyonce’s twins and the mixed reviews it got. In response to Leandra Medine (The Man Repeller) article (insert eye rolle emoji), we stress how unhelpful comparison is in the social media age. What we want or think we need isn’t what always best for us or even what God has planned for us. So chill out and enjoy where you are now, so God can bless you with more later.

Episode 4: 'Bout That Action

Sunny days- everybody loves them… Tell me, baby, can you stand the rain?

***Show Notes***

For the icebreaker this week, we talk about our favorite era of music and find out a surprising fact about one of our hosts.

First and foremost, in the #CultureFix, we delve into BET’s smash hit of New Edition and then we go on to celebrate the black actors who have been nominated for Oscars this year (finally!) A staple black owned restaurant in DC is redoing it’s iconic mural after painting over Barack Obama and Bill Cosby, and we’re not feeling their choices. And finally, we just had to discuss Chrisette Michele’s “woe is me” post inauguration media tour. Our advice? Brush your weave and have a seat sis.

In the #PoliticsFix, we (begrudgingly) discuss Trump’s first week in office. Yes, the world is coming to an end. It’s time to get right with The Lord yall. In the #BeautyFix, we discuss our winter skincare routine, because good skin in the foundation for everything else. And we have an ancetors-approved skin care recommendation will get you right.

Finally in the #FaithFix, you discuss the detriments of laziness. Referencing 2 Thess 3:6:13; Proverbs 10:4; Proverbs 20:4; Proverbs 22:13 and Proverbs 6:9-11, once again The Bible reads us all down (including the hosts!) This episode will help you shake the spirit of laziness and be ‘bout that action!

Episode 3: But... Why?

If you’re reading this it’s too late. Trump is president.

We start off the episode with our recounts of the Obama presidency. And things get a bit emotional. Later on in the episode, we discuss what we as millennials want to see from Obama’s Presidential Center. #ThanksObama.

In the #CultureFix, we talk about Tamera Mowry’s reverse racist mayo sandwich and discuss Future’s petty appearance at the Falcons - Seahawks playoff game. Then we have to cancel out some black “””celebs””” for supporting Trump. Bye Chrisette. Finally, we discuss The Women’s March and pose the question, “Is it impossible to have ‘sisterhood’ with White women?”

In the #BeautyFix, we discuss our everyday beauty routine - and we all unknowingly swear by the same product.

And we end off the episode with a simple question. Why? We discuss the “why” behind our personal platforms and encourage you all to build with intention.

Episode 2: Top Notch

It's levels to this.

*** SHOW NOTES******

Taylor Jay , Toni Childs, and Nikki C welcoming you to the second episode of The Remedy!

To start off this episode, we continued with more questions to get to know the hosts a little better. In the #CultureFix we talked about the tear-filled Obama Farewell, & Drake’s corny IG tribute (just stop Drak-ing Drake. We also talked about the greatness of the Golden Globes wins, and what is up with Joseph Fiennes playing Michael Jackson. In the #BeautyFix, we’re discussing the power of moisturizers; hydration is a major key. In the #PoliticsFix, we had to fact check Trump’s press conference + Jeff Sessions’ testimony.

Finally in the #FaithFix, we are talking about being top notch in everything you do. Taylor references Colossians 3:23-24 , Ephesians 6:7-8, and 1 Corinthians 10:31 and get ready for this Word huney. Time to level up & be top notch.
